Supporting Public Progressive Scholarship by Women
The Foundation for the Advancement of Women in Religion provides funding for women established scholars, emerging scholars and activists for scholarship and projects in religion and related fields. FAWR is committed to building appreciation for difference, building bridges across religious communities and increasing public dialogue that celebrates commonality rather than separation.
Because of the resurgence of religious fundamentalism and intolerance, FAWR's goal of creating scholarly dialogue, challenging misinformation and bringing an alternative to conservative interpretations of religion through support of the work of progressive women scholars is ever more important.
FAWR recognizes that it is possible to be people of faith, committed to religious practice and spiritual growth while remaining committed to secularism in the public sphere. Indeed, it is through a robust secularism in government and the public sphere that all religious traditions can truly thrive in a complex and multicultural society.
FAWR's Programs
FAWR has a set of innovative programs designed to support established scholars, emerging scholars and activists. Through scholarships, sponsorships, project grants, we hope to change the nature of the religious dialogue in our societies. Moreover, because it is a gathering of different religions, FAWR provides rich opportunities to build cooperative movements, engage in joint projects and collaborations for women.
FAWR News & Events March 25, 2007. FAWR announces that it will add the benefit of a complimentary membership of the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion as part of its Sage and Master membership package. JFSR is an independently published, peer-reviewed journal. 2006 News and Events November 20, 2006. Professor Jan Willis, a FAWR board member, is featured as a panelist on the Washington Post "On Faith" dialogue. FAWR is pleased to report a successful launch event on November 18, 2006. The reception was well attended by women from all religious traditions. Pictures from the event will be included in our newsletter. November 18, 2006. FAWR invites members and guests to the November 18, 2006 reception in honor of Women in Religion at the Washington Grand Hyatt hotel from 6-9PM. FAWR. To receive an invitation, please contact FAWR. July 31, 2006. FAWR's membership campaign is now underway. We encourage all progressive people of faith to join us. May 15, 2006. After receiving its tax exemption status, FAWR has launched its membership campaign. Membership is open to all individuals without regard to gender, national origin, religious or political affiliation.
