Named Scholarships

The foundation awards 6 scholarships to established women scholars who are pursuing research and publication in religion. Please note that preference is given to scholarship that is presented in a public forum that reaches as broad an audience as possible. We encourage applications from women writing articles for publication in popular media, journals, and for presentation at professional meetings. All work must be a substantial contribution to the public debate.

The Scholarship Selection committee may choose to split one award among two deserving applicants if the requested or required amount of support falls below the offered amount.

The Blackgoat Scholarship
The Blackgoat Scholar is chosen from applicants who are pursuing research in the field of indigenous religions, postcolonial theory and religion, and gender relations among indigenous peoples.

The Deborah Scholarship
The Deborah Scholar is chosen from applicants pursuing the research of Judiasm and feminism, including early Jewish history and Goddess worship.

The Gaia-Trent Scholarship
The Gaia Scholar is chosen from applicants who are interested in alternative women's spirituality, Goddess religion, Feminist spirituality and eco-feminism.

The Magdalen Scholarship
The Magdalen scholar is chosen from applicants pursuing research in feminist Christianity and the reclamation of the feminine divine in Christianity. We are particularly interested in those studying Sophia or the feminine Spirit of God.

The Meerabai Scholarship
The Meerabai Scholar is chosen from applicants who are interested in women's leadership, women saints, feminism and religions originating in the Indian Subcontinent.

The Rokeya Scholarship
The Rokeya Scholar is chosen from applicants researching feminism and Islam to promote progressive gender relations. We are particularly interested in applicants who are working on the influence of early or pre-Islamic culture on Islam, pre-Islamic Goddess worship and gender relations, sufi women leaders, and on women's experiences outside the Middle East.
